Woolly Rhino Jaw with Teeth

More Information:

This species of Woolly Rhino, Dicerorhinus kirahbergensis, was a gigantic beast that roamed the tundra of both the European and Asian continents during the Pleistocene period. Woolly Rhinos averaged over 4 meters long, 2-3 tons in weight and stood up to 2 meters tall! Their front horns could grow up 2 feet in length and were used to attract mates and to defend itself. As their name indicates, Woolly Rhinos were covered with a thick layer of fur. This in combination with their stocky build and thick shorter legs helped enable them to adapt to climatic changes. But, of course they needed to migrate as needed.

Wholly Rhino specimens are extremely rare. They are even rare in Europe. Many European Woolly Rhino specimens are normally discovered in and around gravel pits. However, they are unknowingly dug up and crushed along with gravel for construction purposes before anyone can retrieve them.

This Woolly Rhino jaw section with its teeth intact somehow made it out intact and was discovered along the Rhine River in Germany. There has been no restoration. The teeth are complete, original and have just the right amount of wear. The enamel on the teeth is excellent. Even the exposed root sections are in excellent condition. The coloration ranges in layers from light to deep chocolate browns and from caramel colors to black.

This is an exceptional specimen for anyone, particularly for the collector interested in prehistoric mammals from the Pleistocene Period.
