Mastodon teeth are extremely rare in comparison to Mammoth teeth. Usually when one comes to market it's what's referred to as a "Spit tooth". Those are teeth that were partially to fully developed in the Mastodons jaw, only to be ejected during the animal's life cycle. To not only find a well preserved Mastodon tooth that was still attached to the jaw, but for it to also have its root attachment is extremely rare.
This Mastodon tooth, with its root attachment is a gem. The enamel is good and its color ranges from warm chocolate browns to deep black. This tooth's wear is just the right amount. The tooths overall condition is very good - excellent. From the size of this tooth, we estimate it came from a large mature Mastodon.
